Oways "0 KM" Agricosmetic laboratories are the breeding ground where, every day, we formulate the answers to the sustainable challenge of the third millennium and to the most demanding cosmetic needs.
In these places, the circular nature of agricosmetica® is expressed to the fullest, by analysing the origin of the raw materials, transforming inspiration into reality and designing within an eco-design framework concentrated and biodegradable treatments for an increasingly conscious everyday use.
FROM FIELD TO BOTTLED PRODUCT
Each formulation starts with the selection of the healthiest and most genuine ingredients from organic and biodynamics farming, some of which are cultivated directly and at 0 km in Ortofficina, others purchased from consciously involved and certified growers who share Oway's mission of sustainability.
STEAM DISTILLATION
Harvested in their balsamic period, the aromatic herbs grown at Ortofficina and at certified partner farms are distilled using a process called "steam extraction", which does not involve the use of synthetic solvents.
Oway allocate part of their production space to zero kilometre distillation of the Ortofficina officinal herbs that they add to their formulas. Essential oils and hydrolates are the result of this distillation. Essential oils not only give birth to intoxicating fragrances, but they are also functional active ingredients on skin and hair and they have calming, balancing and refreshing effects on mind and body.
Hydrolates are active waters soaked with water-soluble plant extracts and small amounts of fat-soluble essential oils so, rich in properties.
MACERATION IN COLD WATER
After the harvest, the plants are processed in maceration plants - one of which is located in the Oway production workshops - which run according to the traditional cold method, without the addition of synthetic solvents.
Plants gradually release their active molecules into the water, giving rise to the MACERATES, activated waters rich in properties.
Once the process is over, the waste and exhausted parts of the plant are added to other substances, which then form compost heaps used as natural fertilisers in the fields.
VERY PURE OZONATED AND OSMOTIZED WATER
To ensure the maximum purity of their formulas, they only use water subjected to two natural treatments: reverse osmosis and ozonation. Thanks to this double step, they obtain microbiologically pure water, without the use of ionising radiation or chemical disinfectants on our machinery and products.
REVERSE OSMOSIS
Reverse osmosis is derived from a completely natural process which technology has "borrowed" from nature. It is a safe and effective system that separates water from foreign substances through the use of special membranes called semi-permeable or osmotic. These membranes make it possible to filter pure water and retain foreign substances both suspended and dissolved. After completion of the reverse osmosis process, the water is ozonated.
OZONATED WATER, VERY PURE WATER
Ozone, a natural molecule composed of 3 oxygen atoms, destroys any residual micro- organisms by oxidation, breaking down the cell membrane in a matter of seconds. As a result of these processes, the water is microbiologically purified.
